DES MOINES, Iowa, April 27, 2021 — The Iowa Physical Therapy Foundation announced 2021 scholarship recipients for the Olive C Farr Scholarship. Sarandyn Curtis, Mercy College of Health Sciences PTA (‘21), is one of two award recipients to earn the scholarship.
The scholarships are awarded to student members of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) who are enrolled in accredited Iowa physical therapist/physical therapist assistant education programs and have concluded the first year of their accredited entry-level Iowa program. Award of the scholarships is based on demonstrated scholarship, potential for professional contributions, and leadership qualities.
Sarandyn is originally from Oskaloosa, Iowa, and became interested in physical therapy at a young age when she went to physical therapy after tearing a knee ligament and fracturing her ankle while playing sports. Sarandyn graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Minor in Psychology. She is currently pursuing her Associate of Science in physical therapist assistant at Mercy College.

The scholarships are made possible by a bequest to the Foundation from Olive C. Farr, PT, the first director of the physical therapy education program at the University of Iowa. Scholarship recipients were also recognized at the 2021 APTA Iowa Spring Conference.
