Mercy College President Adreain Henry, OD, EdD, MBA was recently named the Business Record’s Newcomer of the Year as part of the organization’s “News Changemaker Awards” on December 13, 2023. The honor was announced at a recent event celebrating the 20th anniversary of dsm magazine and the 40th anniversary of the Business Record.

“Receiving this honor is a profoundly humbling experience,” remarked Henry. “I consider it a privilege to stand among such inspirational and compassionate individuals. Working alongside these community leaders has brought both joy and honor throughout the past year.”

Prior to beginning work at Mercy College, Henry served as the Chief Academic Officer and Associate Provost for Hallmark University in San Antonio, Texas, where he was formerly the Dean of Arts, Sciences, Graduate Studies, and Research. Henry has dedicated his career to establishing himself as an inspirational and successful leader through his executive roles in healthcare, education, and the United States Army. He is passionate about the ministry of healing, as well as healthcare delivery and its impact on all stakeholders.

During his first year as president of Mercy College, Henry has proven himself a steadfast advocate for students, constantly seeking out new and innovative ways to improve upon the educational programs and experiences the College has to offer. He has established and promoted scholarships to assist students financially and most recently launched an initiative to develop a campus master plan to improve and expand existing facilities.

According to the Business Record, the Newcomer of the Year Award “recognizes a business leader who is new to the community or in a new position of leadership in their organization who has already and will continue making significant contributions to the community.”

“Our top priority is our students, whether they are from the past, the future, or currently on our campus,” underscored Henry. “It’s crucial for students to understand that we stand firmly by their side, and Mercy College of Health Sciences takes great pride in being an integral part of the Des Moines community. This honor marks just the start of our journey; our efforts will continue to grow and improve. I eagerly anticipate making a lasting impact and collaborating with our community for many years ahead.”

Henry was named Mercy College’s fourth president in July 2022. He was formally installed as the College’s president on April 14, 2023.
