DES MOINES, Iowa, August 17, 2020 — Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, Arianna Embry (’20), landed her nursing dream job. Embry is set to graduate this summer and will start as a Nurse Resident on the Critical Care Track at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Very few U.S. hospitals offer nurse residencies in pediatric and neonatal critical care. However, the Cook Children’s Hospital program is one of the few and is highly competitive. Embry had her heart set on the Cook Children’s residency ever since she became aware of it in January 2020.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” stated Embry. “I didn’t know anything about nursing 10 months ago, and now I am looking forward to caring for the sickest of patients,”
he explained.
Embry will have rotations in the NICU, PICU, Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU, and the Pediatric ER before being placed into a specialty area within the Hospital.
What initially attracted her to Mercy College was the Accelerated BSN one-year program. Once enrolled, she found the curriculum very rigorous, but found solid assistance and support in the faculty.
“Mercy College faculty were so approachable and thoroughly invested in student success. I also appreciated the focus on servant leadership and the faith-based culture at Mercy College. As a young adult, it can be difficult to decide your purpose and what impact you want to make in the world. My time at Mercy College encouraged my personal growth, and I am now a better person,” said Embry.
Embry also has a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Drake University. She has worked as a phlebotomist in the MercyOne Medical Center lab, served as an online tutor for Mercy College, and was elected Vice President of the Mercy College Student Senate.
Mercy College is enrolling now for the fall BSN program with classes starting September 8th.
