(DES MOINES, IOWA) Mercy College of Health Sciences hosted an official college signing day on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. At the event, 27 prospective students signed their official letter of intent to pursue their education at Mercy College. Mercy College President Adreain Henry, OD, EdD, met with each student as they signed their letters and congratulated them on their commitment to their future careers. In addition to the signing event, guests and their families were able to experience a full campus tour and meet with campus representatives.
“Signing day has historically been geared toward athletes,” Mercy College Vice President of Admissions, Marketing, and Financial Aid Matt Romkey, MBA, stated. “A few years ago, we made the decision to honor students’ work inside the classroom as well, and celebrate their future careers as members of the healthcare team.”
National Signing Day began in 1981 and is traditionally the day when high school senior athletes express their written commitment to attend the college of their choice. At Mercy College of Health Sciences, any student with the intent to pursue a career in health sciences is encouraged to attend, whether or not they have even applied to the College.
“These students are excited to start their careers,” Romkey explained, “and the purpose of Mercy College’s Signing Day is to celebrate that excitement with them. Due to the pandemic, this is the first year we’ve been able to host the event on-campus in several years. Being in the space where they’ll be learning the skills they need to make a difference in the lives of patients is what makes this event so meaningful to our future students and their families.”
The event concluded with a light reception and a commemorative gift from President Dr. Henry to celebrate the occasion.
