(Des Moines, IA) – Mercy College of Health Sciences has announced a new $900 scholarship for students seeking their certificate or associate degree in Medical Assisting. The scholarship will be awarded each semester to students enrolled full-time and working toward the completion of their Medical Assistant (MA) coursework at Mercy College. A MA is a multi-skilled health professional specifically educated to work in ambulatory settings performing administrative and clinical duties. Mercy College’s three-semester MA program immerses students in actual work settings with a 240-hour clinical practicum preparing students to enter the workforce with the necessary knowledge to be successful. Those enrolling in the Associate of Science in Medical Assisting program will need to complete an additional 25 credit hours to complete their associate degree.

“This scholarship is a perfect way to assist new and current MA students financially,” said Stacy Smith, MA program chair. “The Medical Assistant program is a fun and fast-paced program. Students will be equipped with administrative, clinical, and limited radiology skills to proceed to an entry level Medical Assistant position.”

Students admitted to Mercy College will now be directly admitted to the MA major and allowed to complete their respective coursework. Students can also complete their MA coursework during any start term – spring, summer, or fall.

Mercy College’s MA licensure and certification first-time pass rates well exceed the 65% national benchmark with a three-year average of 86%. The scholarship will go into effect starting in spring 2019.
