Importance of MMR Vaccination to Prevent Public Health Threat
Measles, mumps, and rubella are viral diseases that can have serious consequences. Before vaccines, these diseases were very common in the United States, especially among children. They are still common in many parts of the world, and both adults and children can contract the disease if unvaccinated.
On April 1, Mercy College of Health Sciences will be hosting its 14th Annual Research Symposium. This year’s symposium will focus on the multifaceted issues of the medicinal use of cannabis. The event will be held on Mercy College’s campus in the Sullivan Center, room 103, from 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm and is open to the public.
Mercy College of Health Sciences’ Associate Dean of Nursing, Mary Schemmel, and Associate Professor of Nursing, Judy Monroe, have both received the 100 Great Iowa Nurses Award of 2019.

(Des Moines, IA) – Mercy College of Health Sciences student Georgia Jorgensen has been named the recipient of NURSE Corps’ full ride scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year. NURSE Corps is a national program developed to provide care to underserved areas and populations. The Corps offers scholarships to students enrolled in nursing degree programs at accredited institutions. As per the requirements, scholarship recipients must be willing to work in a critical shortage facility in need of caregivers after graduating their programs.
