Des Moines Metro Area

Des Moines is a vibrant Midwestern city with more than 490,000 residents in our three-county metro area. As the capitol of Iowa, Des Moines boasts a healthy economy and is home to a number of national and international businesses, including insurance and health care.  Every four years the city and state also play host to the world through the first-in-the-nation Iowa Presidential Caucuses, which bring the nation’s political leaders and news media to locations across the state.

Living in and around Des Moines offers you a safe, clean environment for school, work and play without the hassle of long commutes. Four regional malls offer shoppers a bit of everything. Hundreds of restaurants and clubs serve up a variety of American and ethnic food, live music and dancing.

Lovers of the performing arts will be drawn to the Civic Center of Des Moines, which hosts major Broadway productions. The Des Moines Symphony and Art Center are among the nations finest. A seasonal weekly Farmer’s Market, the nationally juried Des Moines Arts Festival and Iowa State Fair add to the cultural offerings.

If sports are your passion, the Iowa Cubs Baseball Team – the AAA farm team for the Chicago Cubs – and Des Moines Menace soccer teams call Des Moines home. Well-developed bicycle trails and parks provide another escape to enjoy the beauty of Iowa.  No matter what your interest, Des Moines offers a great quality of life!
