Emergency Medical Technician Certificate
Become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Emergency Medical Technicians work in a variety of settings under the supervision of a medical director physician.
This one-semester course (17 weeks) includes both classroom instruction and clinical experience, preparing students to enter the emergency medical services in a 911 emergency response service or a private transportation service.
Should you decide to further your education, this certificate program fulfills one of the prerequisite requirements for admission to the Paramedic Certificate at Mercy College.
The clinical rotations prepare the student for their role as a volunteer or employee of an ambulance service. Students are required to assess 15 patients to complete the clinical requirement.
In Des Moines, Iowa, the pay rate for an emergency medical technician starts at $10 per hour ($20,800 annually). You’ll find more details and statistics about specific roles and job opportunities from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics website.
There is still time to sign up for the accelerated EMT course that begins on October 20, 2014. If you would like to participate in this class, please contact Maggie Moore by email or call (515) 643-6733 by September 30, 2014 regarding admission.
